NYC never ceases to amaze us. Apparently, this Shop
Gotham owner hasnt walked down West 40th Street in a couple of years. To
my surpise today, I discovered that both West 40th and West 39th,
between Ninth and Tenth Avenues have become the affordable hotel mecca. I
counted 7. Likely, they are “supported” by Javitz Center trade show
goers. But if are seeking a decent (albeit not sexy) hotel in the $150
range, here you go. And if you intend to take Shop Gotham’s Garment Center “insider” shopping tour,you are but steps away. Of the group, I suggest checking out: Four Points Sheraton and the Distrikt.

Earn Amazon Rewards From Survey Sites - Part 4
INTRODUCTION --This is the 4th post in a series about survey sites that offer Amazon rewards as payment. Stay tuned as several more sites will be revealed in future posts.
Did you know that you can earn Amazon rewards by taking surveys? I'm registered on several different survey websites where I earn Amazon rewards for completing surveys, testing new products, being part of focus groups, etc. If you love shopping at Amazon and would like to increase your purchasing power then you should consider using survey sites to earn Amazon rewards.
All of the survey sites I belong to are FREE, FREE, FREE to join. None of them have ever asked me to buy anything or disclose my credit card number for any reason. If you ever come across a survey site that asks you to pay to join, I advise you to turn and run, because it is not at all necessary to pay a fee in order to be rewarded for taking surveys.

Most surveys pay from .50 to $2.00 each if you qualify and complete the entire survey which can take from 5 to 20 minutes on average. The Practical Side of Stockpiling Amazon Rewards
We all know that Amazon is the "go to" website when it comes to electronics, toys, books and other fun and frivolous items that might beon our wishlists. However, last week I was once again reminded of how my Amazon rewards serve a practical purpose in keeping my household running smoothly by helping me save money on a necessary kitchen replacement part.
While baking a batch of cupcakes with my daughter, I noticed that my oven temperature was slowly falling and the cupcakes were not rising as they should. Long story short, hubby determined that the baking element in our oven had stopped working and needed to replaced. Since the oven is at least 15 years old with no warranty, we knew we'd have to cover the cost of repairing it ourselves.
After searching online and finding the part at Sears and several other appliance parts websites with prices ranging from $35 - $48 plus shipping, the deal seeking part of my brain finally woke up and I realized I hadn't checked Amazon. You know that feeling, when you overlook the obvious and all you can say to yourself is....
DUH!! ..... and..... Double DUH!!!
Well, you probably know how this story ends, right? I found the exact part we needed at Amazon for only $19.95 plus $8.47 expedited 2-3day shipping. Comparing this with the best price I found elsewhere including shipping charges, I saved over $13! Actually, since I paid for this item with Amazon rewards instead of our "real money" you could say that I once again shopped for FREE at Amazon.com!
I hope you're earning lots of Amazon rewards from the sources I mention here. Keep building up your rewards stockpile and don't forget about all the practical uses for those Amazon rewards. It's wonderful to save them up for the next electronic gadget that hits the market but be sure to check out Amazon for the necessary household items you may be in need of before spending any "real money" elsewhere.

12-19-2014 Guest Guru Hocus Pocus [...what's going on in the sandbox?] i had a nice chat with the barber today...he was talking to his brother in iraq...and seems there is some interesting news being broadcast at fairly often intervals about iraq soon to have a more valuable currency...he seemed to be pretty excited about it. he told me last week that a lot of the vendors would like to have dinar as payment more that dollars now. they think something is up to want the dinar more now in anticipation i suppose. he sure is thinking that things are moving the right direction. This announcement would naturally have to be well publicized in order to remove as much risk as possible vendors taking advantage of the population, so there will build up to this announcement maybe calling it an "historical event" or other catch phrase. It would have to get everybodies attention. 12-19-2014 Newshound Guru Tlar We know the CBI is not waiting on the budget. They have told us that with or without the budget being passed, they will do this when they feel the time is right. We also know that laws are important but laws are political and new laws will be being introduced, modified and changed for eternity. So I don't believe we are waiting on any law at this point. The HCL has been reported as done as far as everything that was needed to be agreed to by both Bagdad and Erbil, and will be implemented Jan 1st as has even been reported in our Washington post. So what's the hold up? It is my belief...that there is no hold up. The CBI IMO has made a strategic decision to open the new rate on or just before the first of next year to be active with the new budget. The CoM knows more than likely they couldn’t get MPs to return and get a quorum until Jan anyway. Look for the budget to be approved near the end of the month.

This is a fundamental pre-requisite to making that move to Article VIII... The fact that the CBI concurs that it is doing what is necessary to get into compliance is also very encouraging. To me this is an indication that we are "coming down to the wire." I do not believe they will be allowed to move to Article VIII prior to completing the 90 days of stable currency. Having said that, however, I still hold out the very real possibility that they will begin the float prior to moving to Article VIII. This only makes sense, because, as I noted earlier, once they float the currency then the official rate and the street rate become identical. I am cautiously hopeful that the float could begin in mid or late January.

It will happen in the next few days; they will bring out the budget and complete economic reforms. This is not an economic opinion or view that falls under some "disclaimer," it's an IMF rule...Simple as that! I am also sure that the IMF's rule/requirement is posted in numerous places throughout the IMF website when referencing Article VIII compliance ...what is imperative is that the CBI must be in 2% compliance. The Article IV Consultation is very specific and explicit when it talks to the CBI about this issue. As a result of the CBI not being able to get in compliance until Nov, they will not be able to request to exit XIV until at least Feb 28 or so. I am not saying they will request then, just that they cannot ask until then. On a side note...was said on TV Monday in regard to the dinar...that nothing will be done until next year. Martial Arts Uniforms - Getting the Right Fit
Whether you're just beginning martial arts training or you've been a practitioner for years, you may have encountered challenges in finding uniforms that have the right fit. Contrary to the popular saying, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to martial arts uniforms. Moreover, a single size might not fit correctly either. After all, many of us aren't proportionate; we may require a larger top and a smaller bottom, or vice versa. Unfortunately, though, many people - especially those just starting out - buy ill-fitting uniforms from their instructors. But before exploring the possibilities for well-fitting uniforms, let's look at the basics:
Basic Martial Arts Uniforms
The type of uniform you need depends upon the type of martial arts training you're taking. For example, karate uniforms are significantly different than judo uniforms. In the Japanese practice of judo, the judoka uses his opponent's strength against him, and therefore needs a thick jacket that is difficult to grab. For that reason, judo uniforms - or judogi - typically consist of a pants and a quilted cotton jacket that is much thicker than karate jackets. There are also single weave jackets, which are lighter and more useful in long practice sessions to prevent overheating, and thick double weave jackets that are essential for competition.
In contrast to karate uniforms, judo uniforms, and tae kwon do uniforms, which are cotton and feature a crossover front with a belt closure, traditional kung fu jackets are typically made from silk and feature a front button closure. Those practicing kendo - the Japanese equivalent of fencing - usually wear a hakama and a kimono.
One of the latest trends in uniforms is martial arts cargo pants, which combine comfort with versatility. The cargo pants are available in a variety of colors, including camouflage prints, and usually have a stripe running down the outside of each leg.
Mixing and Matching
When you buy martial arts uniforms from a dojo or dojang, you normally buy a set consisting of the same size and color pants and top. Today, however, there are online sources where you can mix and match sizes and colors that fit both your body shape and your sense of style.
When you purchase martial arts uniforms online, it's important to pay close attention to the site's size charts and buy tops and pants that will fit well. It's not uncommon for the best sites to carry sizes ranging from 000 (which would most likely fit a three-year-old) to 12 (which would fit someone well over six feet tall). Taking an extra moment to get the right fit will make you feel better and more confident while practicing or competing.
It's also important to select the proper fabric weight for your specific martial art and skill level. A beginner, for example, might go with a medium weight karate jacket, while an experienced practitioner might need a super-heavyweight fabrication.

So nothing makes me happier than a trip to the Dollar Tree. So when I find a group of teachers that want to make a trip…I’m all in. On one of the weekends when I was home, my family went to watch my son, Tyler, race. Between the races, Ginny (my daughter in law that teaches prek) and I found a dollar tree. Here are some of the things we bought!
The lower right picture is of my kids at Tyler’s race! I just love them! I never really knew how much I would enjoy them as adults. They are super fun to be with and I am so glad that we all live in the same town.
I use the lantern at my table when I am working with small groups. The kids know that if the light is on, don’t interrupt unless it is an emergency. Light off—I am available to help you.
The pumpkin magnets are going to be for the Five Little Pumpkins song.
Love dominoes and can never have too many sets. I made a pack for tpt that contains all of my domino games. You can get it (here).
I cut up the alphabet train to make a game like the one in the lower left hand corner. To play: place a chip at the end of each row. Roll a dice and move the first chip that many spaces. Repeat with rows two and three. Write your word. My kids love this game. So I made some other sets on the computer.

Fly swatters for the swat games:
To make the games spread cards out on the floor that contain letters, numbers, words, etc. Give two children each a fly swatter. Call out what you want them to look for. When they find it, they swat it!

I love to put one of the foamie puzzles on the table when I am playing hangman. That way the kids can see which letters have been guessed and which have not. I simply dump the puzzle and as they guess the letter we put the pieces back in the puzzle.

Love the frog game for number combinations. Have the kids count out 5 frogs. Then have then “flip” the frogs into the bowl. Write the number combination for how many in the bowl and how many out of the bowl.
Love the cuts outs for making matching games and the vests for the dramatic play area.
Then Megan and I made a trip to Target. We picked up a few new pocket charts for her room and the word strips and word cards for her writing center. We are going to use the name plates to glue their photos and write their names. Then we are going to bind them into a book for the writing center.
Finally, I just couldn’t resist these sandwich holders. Not really sure how I am going to use them; but, they are just too cute! I was thinking an odd/even sort or maybe a one more or two more game. What do you think?

- I just found this post. Love all the ideas! Wish I could quickly think of what to use things for right when I see them. Unfortunately our $ store doesn't have too many things to choose from. I use sandwich containers as salt boxes for students to finger-write letters and numbers. I love all of your activities you and your daughter feature on your blog and makes me long to teach kindergarten again, but it's difficult to get a position at that level. Have a good school year!
